Rachel Lawlor
An avid dog lover, Rachel began rescuing dogs in need at a young age with her animal-loving mother. She began her career working in grooming salons in the DC area before focusing on an over twenty-five-year career in high-end customer service with nationwide top 50 corporations. Rachel combines her dog savvy side with a focus on guest relations and client needs, understanding that there is a human side to dog grooming with each and every pet parent. Rachel’s warm and welcoming social side carries into her home life, laughter and hospitality fills her home with her husband, Tom, sons Jacob and Mac, and their dogs Stella, a hound mix and Fezzik, a Labradoodle, and their rescue cat, Adrian.

Abby Spanu
Abby has been dog crazy from before she could walk. She spent her early years showing obedience with her rescue dog, Sampson, as well as raising two puppies who went on to successful careers with the Guide Dog Foundation for the Blind in New Jersey. Abby later showed her Shih Tzu, Monty, to an AKC obedience title and then began doing canine education through the Washington Humane Society in inner city schools. Abby also successfully showed her standard poodle, Eli, in the AKC conformation ring. She has always been very active in rescue, acting as a transporter and foster for local rescues. Abby brings with her an extensive background in stellar customer service and an eye for detail. When not in the salon, Abby enjoys spending time with her partner, Mark, and daughter, AnaVera, rehabbing animals on their sanctuary for rescued horses and dogs in Virginia.

Katelyn Mayo
Katelyn has been our head stylist since we opened in 2018. An extremely talented perfectionist, Katelyn’s passion for hand scissoring and attention to detail makes her the ideal groomer to give your pet a breed standard cut, and her creative streak will have your dog turning every head in the DMV with a fun and funky style. Currently working on her certification as a canine esthetician, Katelyn also specializes in canine nutrition and skin allergies and is available to offer advice to help your dog not only look their best but feel their best too! Katelyn’s calm and compassionate nature has every dog running to hop on her grooming table for a day of beauty. When not at the grooming table, Katelyn enjoys attending concerts and comedy shows with her husband, Jack, and spending time with her three dogs, Roxy, a German Shepherd, Basil, a Golden Retriever and Mozzarella, a Standard Poodle.

Cari Davis
Cari is talented in so many ways with all dogs but has earned her title as our “doodle queen” for a reason. Cari is incredible at positively starting puppies on their lifetime of grooming, earning their trust with her infinite patience and calm demeanor. Cari’s haircuts are show stoppers and sought after, and she is always finding a way to let the pup’s personality shine through. Cari loves board game night with friends and her partner Devon, traveling with her family and cuddling with her rescue dogs Tetra and Daisy, as well as her rescue cats.

Jerrod Johnson
Jerrod can go from tiny dog pawfection to extra large desheds with the flip of a slicker brush! We call Jerrod our ray of sunshine at the shop for a reason, his positive energy and creative mind inspire all of us and carry over into a great relationship with his canine and feline clients. Our go to stylist for tiny Poodles and Pomeranians, Jerrod also takes on our large working breed clientele for deshedding baths, as well as creating feline masterpieces with his hand scissored cat haircuts. In his spare time, Jerrod enjoys creating canine artistry on his own standard poodle, and stretching his artistic mind into sculpture work and portraits.

Lauren Mantle
Lauren brings over twenty five years of compassionate grooming experience to the grooming table. She is an expert in dog behavior and adept at patiently working with puppies, anxious dogs, and dogs with behavioral issues. Lauren’s skills also include hand stripping, cat grooming and creative grooming from mohawks to color and everything in between. A talented artist, when not working, you’ll probably find Lauren painting a portrait of a dog, or spending time with her partner, Austin, and her four children.

Glauce Troncoso
Glauce is the absolute master of double coat work, having clients travel from outside the DC area for her expert undercoat desheds, hand scissored outline trims and natural neatened up appearances. Glauce’s understanding of structure and breed standards helps her maintain her clientele’s individual preferences and keep them all in tip too shape. The busy mother of four, Glauce also maintains her own Australian Shepherd, Khaleesi and her standard poodle, Fate in her rare free time!

Ella Lewis
Ella joined us as a Bather/Prepper while completing her groomer training. Since that time, we have watched Ella grow into a confident and proficient stylist who is incredibly patient and reassuring to the dogs on her schedule. Ella is fantastic with nervous dogs and is extremely talented beyond her years. She excels at hand scissored finishing touches on her haircuts as well as beautiful double coat work. Ella’s hometown is Chattanooga, and she and her husband, Christian, enjoy looking after their two Great Danes, Nooga and Nash while exploring Washington DC during their military tour.

Takeva Hunter
Takeva has been with Masterpiece since 2019, working part-time as a bather and groomer’s assistant. Takeva’s kind and gentle demeanor sets the dogs she takes care of at ease and her love of dogs and the grooming industry is obvious in all she does. Takeva takes great pride in her deshed work and continuously advances her knowledge of products and coat care to provide excellence week after week. Takeva works as a groomer outside of Masterpiece as well, and enjoys her off days with her Shih Tzu, Bernie, and her Pit Bull, Blue.
